There are some exciting times in our near future. Not only is my junior recital only 23 days away,
but the zombie opera that i’ve helped to create is beginning to enter its ‘advertising’ phase.
was featured on the inside cover of PSU’s latest opera playbill. If every person who saw this ad brought a friend, then too many people would come to our show. But that would be kindof cool… having to turn people away and recommending they come early to tomorrow’s show. Does one scalp their own comp tickets? Now that i’ve completely jinxed myself, on to the things i would also like to see.
This may seem like a shocker to some of you, but there is a new Star Trek movie coming out soon. 16 days to be exact. I am very excited to see how Giacchino will treat this score. Not to mention everyone’s favorite normal looking British actor and funny man, Simon Pegg as ‘Scotty’.
But there are some other movies coming down the pipeline that intrigue me to no end. Putting aside the normal heavies like Terminator: Salvation, Wolverine, Land of the Lost, Harry Potter 6, Transformers 2, G.I. Joe, 2012, District 9, Inglorious Bastards… and possibly the most undersold, but the ones i’m especially looking most forward to:
From producer Tim Burton, this to me is very reminiscent of some older animations that to me are of the very creepy variety. Namely Tool’s video for “Sober”, And Kenna’s Hell Bent. This is from the Director of Wanted. A Russian who thinks kind of like the Wachowski brothers. If you haven’t checked out his films “Night Watch” and “Day Watch” you should probably do that now. The story is a very cool one. Anyways, it looks like a very dark animated film, which is exciting, because even though there are things like “Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride” this story seems more sincerely dark rather than cartoony. Also, i should mention this trailer’s wonderful use of “Welcome Home” by Coheed & Cambria. Here are the music videos of the animation that seems to be in a similar genre as “9”.
The other movie that i am super, super excited about is “Moon”.
It may help that i’m a total sucker for anything that has to do with space and technology. I don’t even mind that the moon computer is a glorified ‘HAL’. I loved the movie “Sunshine” by Danny Boyle. And even though this isn’t a Danny Boyle film, it is directed by a fellow brit; Duncan Jones.
I don’t know why, but i am and always have been a little obsessed with astronomy and space. I was even at one time a Space Studies major, until i was disturbed to find out that i don’t have the math for that. But continuing on that theme, I think i’ve watched every episode of The Universe on the History channel, and also every episode of Futurama. Also, i read a lot of science fiction books. I don’t know about most of you, but if you like those kinds of books too, i would highly recommend reading John Scalzi’s “Old Man’s War”.
That is what i have for now. If i forgot any movies, let me know so that i can think about them
And by the way, if aliens ever came to earth, we would be fucked. My dream last night told me so.
